Lightning strikes again

Wednesday 2nd

It seems unlikely that the project will be finished by Friday although it is progressing steadily. The fix for reading excel files worked and I wrote another routine to import the historical production date as well as a couple of the daily calculation routines.

I created some graphs of the historical data and found that they took way too long to be printed. So long, in fact, that a couple of times I deleted the printer just to get rid of the print job. Once, when I let it run, it produced rubbish. Fortunately I found a clever way around this and now they get produced after a few seconds.

Tomorrow they are having a blessing ceremony for the new office building – the one my office is in. They have a small shrine set up and have laid down carpets. I’m not sure what impact this will have on work in general and my work in particular tomorrow.

When I left I was actually ready before my driver. Normally he is waiting for me but today I saw him washing the dust of the car with a hose. While I was waiting a butterfly about 3 inches across was feeding on the flowers. I actually managed to get a number of photos.

I had finished dinner and was watching an Aussie movie on TV and doing the crossword when tonight’s storm arrived. It was so severe that we lost the satellite signal. The laundry baskets and the food tables were hastily moved so they didn’t get wet and I moved a number of times before finding a sheltered nook. It was still pelting down half an hour later, with a lot of lightning as well. The driver who bought me up the first time eventually walked me over to my room with someone else’s umbrella and then took it back. I would have been drenched otherwise, even though it’s only 50m or so. It is still raining an hour later but not as heavily.

My attempts to photograph the lightning were spectacularly unsuccessful.
