Here I am in another airport. This time it's Perth International and I am in the Qantas Club since I'm flying business class (on Thai). It's a late afternnonn departure so I've had the morning to get ready, copy files to my new laptop, pack etc. So much more civilised than getting up at 6am or earlier. However it will be nearly midnight before I get to my hotel in Bangkok.
I have been to Thailand 5 times, two of which I have blogged. This time I'm going for business rather than pleasure.
A few months back I was contacted by Pan Orient regarding my Production Management software. This is a system that has been used in the UK for well over 10 years and the same system which I customised for Cairn India 18 months ago.
After the usual email discussions and a few phone calls I was informed tha I was successful just after I returned from NZ a few weeks back. I had a meeting yesterday so this was the first daay I could leave and stay for a fortnight. I also had to get a work visa which was organised and picked up last week. I had suggested next Sunday but the supervisors at the field work 1 month shifts and the one who would be most helpful finishes his shift on Sunday.
The office is in a town called Wichian Buri some 200km North of Bangkok. IN answer to my qury about tourist attractions shopping and golf, Spencer replied that it was a farming town surrounded by paddy fields and as for shops, I'd be in luck if I was after tractor parts. Good thing I've bought a few books.
I have been re-reading the first of the Thai for Beginners books, trying to brush up on the small amount of familiarity with the language I developed last year (and then more or less forgot). I suspect it's too little too late but anything is better than nothing. I hope this trip will give just a bit more competence than last time.
